I have searched and searched and can not grab a legit citation for Willie Lynch, but was able to find the Willie Lynch Letter on may sites but no reputable citation.
So, I will say reading the letter in totality whether fact or fiction I noted from my childhood, a sense of fact from what I have read. I was raised in a house where I was repeatedly told how pretty I was and how I had a headful of beautiful hair. It wasn’t until I went outside to play with my friends that I realized that my neighborhood was plagued with color identity. In my house there was all shades of brown so me being the darker color of everyone in my house but being loved just as much as everyone else I didn’t know that color was an issue until it was. Growing up in a middle class black neighborhood everyone was identified by some kind of visual characteristic, so you were either black this, or light that, or dark this, and short that, or skinny them, or fat that etc… Fast forward I am the only black girl working in the doctors office and there are roughly about six of us, Irish, Italian, Jewish, Polish, and me the black girl. Oddly to me when they would reference someone it would be by there first and last name something I noticed we didn’t do in my neighborhood. The only time I can remember knowing the last name of someone was if they came from a big family or their were multiple people with the same first name. This is my account some may differ. So I asked my mother one day why is the color of someone’s skin such an issue and her response was “Growing up in my day they put a blanket over the darker babies in the stroller when walking down the street.” So to me that was a clear backlash to dark vs light superiority which dates back to white superiority. My mother who I wouldn’t consider darker skinned said she would get covered. She had sisters who were of lighter skin color than her so she said when having her children regardless of their skin color she wanted them all to be treated the same. Talk about the psychological effect that carried through generations recounting my mother who had a very fair skinned mother. So generation after generation we continue to put emphasis on all of the beautiful melanin’s we are blessed with some are still depicting our colors in derogatory manner of which only them to know why and others have embraced our unique canvases in show of solidarity. This psyche is just one of many tactics used by this alleged White Slave Owner who declared his doctrine on the bank of the James River in 1712. Willie Lynch’s letter is below- click the link, and ask yourself knowing what you have learned, experienced, or witnessed in your life unrelated to the color of your skin or your race, how much of this letter do you think has merit? I chose this link since the letter text made for a comfortable read.
My links has been removed, when I get my response as to why I will add comment here.
UPDATE- The information I was told from my web advisor was that my links were removed due to a server error. I could put them back up or they can restore them from my account, either way I will leave as is but wanted my readers to know why they were removed. Thanks for supporting my blog!
