We are told that we should do monthly self breast exams on ourselves. So when and where do you conduct your breast exam and how often?
For me I think you are never to young to get familiar with your body parts. If you are reading this blog then start examining yourself and don’t stop!
I usually do my self exams in my bed laying flat on my back hehehe, yes make a conscious effort and be mindful of what you are about to do so you get familiar with what you are feeling. If or when you feel something unusual you know when to call your doctor. I also do my self exams in the shower, for me the soapy water allows me to feel more of the textures of my breast. And if I notice a change I keep an eye on it or call my doctor if it doesn’t go away. For example, if I am experiencing tenderness or pain, I evaluate the time of the month and if it’s close to my menstrual cycle I wait until I get it to see if the pain goes away and if it doesn’t I call my doctor. Knowing our body allows us to tap into that intuition that something is not right and if you get that feeling act on it. For me it is better to be safe than sorry!
