It was called “Mothering Sunday” before Mothers Day being recognized as a celebration for motherhood and mothers by the Greeks and Romans. Mothering Sunday was originally a Christian celebration that fell on the fourth Sunday of Lent where the faithful would return to their main church (the mothering church) near where they lived for a special service. Over time the tradition shifted and the children would present their mothers with flowers and gifts which led to the American Holiday we know as Mothers Day. The link below explains how Ann Reeves Jarvis and Julia Ward Howe gained notoriety for some major accomplishments and when Mothers Day became officially established by President Woodrow Wilson as a Holiday. https://www.history.com/topics/holidays/mothers-day
I pray all Mothers here now or before are continuously watching over us helping to guide us forever through this journey called life.
