I sit in my chair waiting for my doctor to come in, while sitting wondering about all the things I want to complain about. My doctor knocks and comes in and as he/she approaches the chair they ask, how are things going? And then I start! So we all know kind of how this is gonna go, tests, labs, or follow-up. Fast forward to whether you have known your doctor for one day or twenty years, delivering the news of any illness to someone is never fun. For me, working for doctors as a Medical Assistant and having to give patients messages from their physician never came without one or two follow up questions. So with this month being Breast Cancer Awareness Month I wanted to also bring awareness to our doctors who advise, console, advocate, care and are able to somehow keep a poker face when delivering a diagnosis to us of any kind. It can’t be as easy as they make it seem, they are so compassionate and make it seem so effortless and we want to thank you for all you do at ensuring and providing the BEST care you can for all of your patients. Below is a link for you to read from a physician explaining what it’s like to care for his terminally ill patients. Thank you Michelle Brandt from Standford Medicine on this very palpable article.
